In DC, I had enjoyed the plethora of excellent Indian restaurants in the area. I thought all was lost on my move to Michigan. But I was pleasantly surprised by Sindhu’s.

During lunchtime, Sindhu offers a buffet of several of its menu items.  While the buffet is not large, the focus is more on quality. Every day, they have tandoori chicken and most days there’s a halal chicken korma. Plenty of vegetarian gravies are also offered to accompany your naan, or white or lemon rice. I had never had lemon rice before, but it has a nice, sweet and sour flavor. Another tasty side is the fried vegetable paorka or cabbage. A handful of chutneys and a dessert of rice pudding or mango pudding are also available.  The buffet is all you can eat and you can get out for under ten dollars.  It’s best to go before noon as a long line tends to form.

In the evening and on weekends, the full menu is offered with full service.  I’m not sure if the food is prepared differently for the buffet, or it’s lost when I gorge myself, but the flavors during the full service hours seem to have more subtlety.  The dinner for two is a great option if you’re sharing a meal.  The tandoori chicken explodes with a subtle but pleasant sourness and the curried lamb is initially spicy with a complex curry flavor.

Don’t miss the rice pudding and the mango drink!
